The PDM 2006 Event (Plastics
Design & Moulding Exhibition Show) is the premier
trade exhibition in the UK for all designers and
producers of plastic products.
Held in the modern exhibition conference venue
of Telford International Centre, two-thirds of
the UK population are in fact within 2 hours drive,
particularly true with the recently improved Midlands
motorway network, train links also being very
good. Telford is also a natural choice, having
a strong engineering background and a well-known
plastics processing heritage.
Moulded products are all around us, in every area
of our lives. The pressure on the industry to
be more and more innovative and competitive in
their product and service costs is immense. The
technology used to garner this necessary market
advantage is now visible for all to see at this
essential industry-leading showcase.
Key decision makers and industry influencing personnel
should make it a date. See a vast array of machinery,
ancillary equipment, moulds, subcontracting opportunities,
materials, and all areas of the design process.
Over 200 exhibitors will be present; a perfect
opportunity to network as well as to participate
in the breakfast briefings and free conference
sessions on offer from industry experts.
The organisers of the event are Emap Maclaren,
a division of the Emap group. As well as being
behind the annual Plastics Industry Awards (the
leading award scheme for excellence in the industry),
they are the publishers of leading trade magazines
Plastics & Rubber Weekly (PRW) and European Plastics
News as well as being operator of the PRW.com
website for essential online industry news.
HBC Engineering Solutions (Stand K25):
This year, Kent based HBC Engineering
Solutions have decided, for the first time, to
exhibit at the Telford International Centre (stand
K25); a logical move considering that it covers
over 50% of the services which they offer.
HBC are a very large, successful company but are
new to the exhibiting world, despite having been
manufacturing for over 40 years. The simple reason
is that HBC were, until 4 years ago, working purely
for a dedicated group of European OEMs. Recently,
however, following an MBO, HBC’s services have
become available to the wider market of OEMs who
require significant volumes of the highest quality
components to be manufactured on a reliable contract
basis. Electromechanical, Medical and Automotive
component sectors would be typical applications.
HBCs Pedigree:
Make no mistake, HBC are a
major force, with a Ł16˝ million turnover last
year from its staggeringly large engineering complex
in Kent. With over seventy-five thousand square
feet packed with the latest design, testing, optimising,
tooling, moulding and production facilities, HBC
will be hard to beat on price, service, quality
and speed of delivery, particularly because they
can do so much in-house without the need to subcontract.
HBC’s management team, designers, engineers and
machine operatives are also a force to be reckoned
with, hand-picked from the very best in the industry.
In fact, it is worth noting that HBC were a finalist
in 3 categories of the PIA Awards this year; finalist
in the category of Processor of the Year (for
the second year running), finalist in the Best
Training and Development Programme category (for
the third year running), and finalist in the Best
Health and Safety Initiative category (again,
for the third year running). So while many OEMs
may not have heard of HBC, they clearly should
put them in their shortlist when considering suppliers.
HBCs Work Ethic:
At the heart of HBC’s work
ethic is its ability to enhance results through
strong working relationships with OEM clients.
HBC concentrate on building strong customer relationships
in a way which sees them becoming part of the
client’s team; less of a subcontractor and more
of a positive and valuable member of the customer’s
own operation. That’s as close to ‘in-house’ as
you can get from a subcontractor, and means highly
acceptable lead times and profits, next-to-zero
red tape and a perfect supply chain from an in-house
style of supply.
HBCs Core Products & Services:
• Design for manufacture
• Tool making and sourcing
• New Business Introduction Unit
• Project management
• Plastic injection moulding
• Specialist technical moulding services

Conference Paper
Gordon Nicholson, HBC’s engineering
and project manager, has been asked to give a
paper at the conference on ‘World Class Moulding’.
The conferences are free to attendees this year
and Gordon will be highlighting the challenges
of manufacturing a chosen product through addressing
mouldflow analysis, Catia modelling, materials,
tooling, machine supply/selection, component assembly
and quality control.
See him at 3pm on Wednesday 27th September in
the conference suite.
